Learn & Practise

Families & children

Children are welcome here, and noise from children is not a problem. A children's program runs alongside the weekend talk during school terms.

The children's Dhamma program

Not entertainment, and not scripture memorising. The program teaches character as a set of ordinary skills: sitting still for a short while, telling the truth when it costs something, noticing when someone needs help. The Ten Codes learned young, in a form children can use.

  • Ages five to twelve, with older children helping to run it.
  • Runs alongside the Weekend Dhamma Talk in school terms.
  • All coordinators hold current working-with-children clearances.
  • Free, like everything else.

Raising children with the Codes

Parents ask us for something practical. These resources are short, and each one ends with something you can try this week.

  • Truthfulness at home — what to do when a child lies, and what not to do. (Placeholder)
  • Stillness in five minutes — a bedtime practice for younger children. (Placeholder)
  • Kindness that costs something — chores, siblings and repair. (Placeholder)
  • Screens and restlessness — a plain conversation, not a rule. (Placeholder)

Child safety: our child safe policy and complaints procedure are published on the governance page. Concerns can be raised with any Council member, or in writing to the Secretary.

The School we guard

This community founded and now guards PAL Buddhist School. The School runs its own daily life and its own enrolments. What we can tell you is why it exists and who protects it.
